Social media activist Shumba summoned by commission on murders

Social media activist Ahmed Ashraf (Shumba) is being summoned to the presidential commission on murders and enforced disappearances.

Shumba revealed to AVAS that he was asked to present himself to the commission at 11 am on Thursday morning. He was not informed a reason for the summon.

It has been reported that Shumba will be questioned regarding the death of parliamentarian and Islamic scholar Dr Afrasheem Ali, who was brutally murdered in 2012. He will also be questioned over the disappearance of journalist Ahmed Rilwan. It is likely that he is being summoned due to controversial tweets posted by Shumba on both cases.

In a tweet posted on Wednesday, Shumba stated that he will be attending the commission and will cooperate with the commission in their investigation.

Recently, former PPM council member and social media activiist Zahid Rameez was summoned to the commission. Earlier, Shhumba was arrested in neighboring Sri Lanka and brought to the Maldives where he was charged and detained for threatening Zahid Rameez through social media.
