Special envoy to Sri Lanka pays courtesy call on PM

Special envoy of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, State Minister of Foreign Ministry Ahmed Khaleel has paid a courtesy call to Sri Lanka's Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, and former president Mahinda Rajapaksa.

State Minister Khaleel expressed his condolences to Prime Minister Ranil following the coordinated blasts that took place in Sri Lanka on Sunday, which claimed the lives of over 290 people. The special envoy of the president expressed solidarity with the government and people of Sri Lanka at this time of national distress.

The string of explosions hit two churches as worshipers attended Easter services on the Christian holiday, in addition to several high-end hotels. The affected locations were Saint Anthony Church, Saint Sebastien Church, Zion Church, Shangri-La Hotel, Cinnamon Grand Hotel, Kingsbury Hotel, and areas near Dehiwala Zoo and Mahawila Gardens. While the death toll has increased to 290, the number of people injured in the blasts are over 500.
