Maldives Immigration has revealed that country’s border security has been tightened following the terrorist attack in neighboring Sri Lanka late last month.
In a statement released by the immigration on Saturday night, they said stricter regulations will be followed in the future in issuing special and business visas due to the newly implemented security changes.
Noting that visa approval would require more than the standard 48-hours, the statement urged travelers not to travel to Maldives before visa is approved.
“The approval process may prolong than the routined time of 48hrs and we advise not to board the flight to travel to Maldives prior to visa approval”, read the statement.
Immigration’s statement comes after a traveler from Jordan who arrived via Sri Lankan airlines on Friday was prohibited from entering the Maldives after Immigration decided against issuing him a visa. According to Immigration, the requirements to obtain a visa were incomplete, prompting the authority to reject his visa application.
