US Ambassador calls on Defense Minister

US Ambassador to the Maldives Ms. Alaina B. Teplitz has assured that the US government would assist Maldives in overcoming defense challenges faced by the country and the South Asian region.

Ambassador Teplitz on Monday paid a courtesy call on Defense Minister Mariya Ahmed Didi and extensively discussed ways to tackle terrorism and radicalization in the region.

In a statement released following the meeting, MNDF noted that the US Ambassador acknowledged President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s government's efforts in addressing the current challenges faced by the country following the recent terrorist attacks in neighboring Sri Lanka.

Minister Mariya thanked the US government for their assistance in training Maldivian army personnel, and assured that appropriate security measures are being taken in the light of recent events.
