Funds allocated for Rasdhoo coastal protection from Indian grant aid

Maldivian government has allocated funds from the grant assistance of MVR 100 million from neighboring India towards the coastal protection of Aa. Rasdhoo.

The Foreign Ministry confirmed that MVR 8 million has been allocated for the project. Under the project, an area of 179-meters which currently face coastal erosion will be protected.

The Indian government during March this year signed off a grant assistance of MVR 100 million. Funds amounting to MVR 23.5 million have already been allocated for five different projects while MVR 15.7 million has also been released for the purchase of 11 ambulances and fitness moments for gyms being established across 61 islands.

With the recent allocations, a total of MVR 47.2 million has now been released to the Maldivian government as grant assistance by the Indian government.

The government of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has been strengthening ties with India after the relationship between both countries grew strained during former president Yameen Abdul Gayyoom's rule. The Indian PM Narendra Modi is set to visit the Maldives on June 7 as his first visit to a foreign country after being re-elected as the Prime Minister in India's general elections last month.
