Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the coastal surveillance radar system and the composite training system established in the Maldives with Indian aid during his upcoming visit to the archipelago.
The ten radar systems which are able to connect with other systems established in Sri Lanka, Mauritius, and Seychelles through one network will help to monitor the Maldivian Economic Zone, MNDF has previously reported. The system will provide real-time information on vessels in the area to relevant authorities.
Speaking to the press on Modi's visit to the Maldives on June 8, Indian Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale stated the two projects of USD 26 million are of utmost importance.
The Indian government also revealed that several agreements will be signed between both countries during Modi's visit. Officials from External Affairs Ministry of India stated that agreements on civil servant training, and important agreements on shipping and customs are scheduled to be signed during the visit. Support agreements on other sectors will also be signed, the ministry revealed.
Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to deliver a speech at the Maldivian parliament on Saturday evening. The country is currently preparing for the Prime Minister's visit, his first trip abroad after his astounding win in the Indian general elections, securing a second time as the Prime Minister.
