Home Minister to be questioned over Luthufee's whereabouts

A proposition has been made at the parliament to summon Home Minister Imran Abdulla to be questioned on plans to bring back to the Maldives Abdulla Luthufee, the leader behind the November 11 1988 terrorist attacks on Maldives.

The motion was submitted on Tuesday by Nolhivaram MP Mohamed Nasheed Abdulla, inquiring if the government of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih intended to bring back Luthufee, who was allowed to leave the country to seek medical treatment in neighboring Sri Lanka during former president Mohamed Nasheed's rule. MP Nasheed further questioned regarding the current whereabouts of Luthufee.

Abdulla Luthufee, with help of a terrorist organisation 'Plot' of Sri Lanka executed attacks Maldives on November 3rd 1988 in an attempt to overthrow the government, killing 19 Maldivians. Luthufee was tried and found guilty of treason by the court and was sentenced to death. However, his sentence was later changed to life imprisonment.
