Bathala Island rebranded as Sandies Bathala

Bathala Island, formerly managed by AAA Hotels & Resorts, has been rebranded as part of Sandies Hotels and Resorts operated by Planhotel Group and reopened as ‘Sandies Bathala’.

The resort was leased to the Switzerland-based resort group last year, leading to the rebranding of Bathala as a 4-star resort.

The newly reopened Sandies Bathala boasts the addition of water villas, with a total of 73 rooms including beach rooms. Additional facilities at the resort include a gymnasium and diving center in addition to restaurants that offer Maldivian cuisine.

Planhotel Hospitality Group already runs two resorts in the Maldives under its luxury all-inclusive brand, Diamonds Hotels & Resorts. The two resorts operated by Diamond, Thudufushi and Athuruga are located in the magnificent South Ari Atoll

According to Tourism Ministry statistics, 12 new resorts have opened thus far in 2019. In addition to this, works are currently ongoing at a total of 120 new tourism properties.
