A foreign expert is in the Maldives to offer technical advise on further reforming police work.
Former Chief Constable of Police Service of Northern Island, Sir Hugh Stephen Roden Orde is undertaking an assessment of Maldives Police Service. The assessment is being funded by the government of United Kingdom.
Sir Hugh will be working in the Maldives from 13th to 19th July, and will discuss ways in which the police work can be further enhanced, and ways in which UK's relevant authorities can work with Maldivian police. A report will be issued based on his findings.
In his report, he will make recommendations on the changes he believes are necessary to enhance police work, in addition to establishing strategies on implementing the law. He will also advise on models through which the police can work with the society to offer services, and will highlight on developing the professionalism of police, in addition to investigating and raising charges based on police intelligence and evidence. Ways in which the police can work with civil entities will also be recommended, while also giving his opinion on the changes that should be brought to the structural organization of the police.
Sir Hugh Stephen Roden Orde joined London's Metropolitan Police Service in 1977. Sir Orde is widely credited for steering UK's policing in to the 21st century and is an acclaimed organisational change expert.
