'Role of auditors vital to eradicate corruption'

Chair of the Parliament's Public Finance Committee Mohamed Naashiz has stated the role of the auditors is very important in the fight against corruption.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of Maldives Accountancy Forum, Naashiz stated that the assistance of accountants and auditors is vital to eradicate corruption and called on those working in the field to responsibly carry out their tasks to ensure that state finances are being used for its intended purposes.

"Companies should employ qualified accountants and financial experts to strengthen the companies' governance and internal control systems", said Naashiz.

Naashiz further stated that he will make it a priority to pass the bill on Professional Accountancy Organisation bill at the earliest. He applauded the Auditor General's Office for their efforts in developing the auditing and accounting profession of Maldives.

The MAF Forum was initiated in the year 2017 by the Auditor General's Office to exchange information among the industries' experienced individuals and promote cooperation between those working in the field. Like previous years, many local and foreign technical experts took part in this year's conference.
