Local Government Authority (LGA) Sunday began a program to familiarize local councils on the 'Viya' program that links the accounts of all councils under one network.

While the program divided over four batches will be conducted until Thursday, representatives from all councils of Maldives are taking part in the program.

LGA said the 'Viya' module is an electronic system on which the accounts of all council can be stored and maintained. The uses of the program includes budgeting, preparation of payment vouchers, and all work related to the councils' finances. The software will be rolled out before November 30, said LGA.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the training program, Director General of LGA Adam Shareef stated that the authority is currently in the process of converting analogue services, such as population registration as a digital service.

Adam Shareef said the authority is undertaking several efforts to upgrade the analogue systems to digital by the creation of different programs. An app to update daily population records is currently being developed, he revealed.
