Tolarno Maldives Kunaavashi Resort to open in 2020

An island under development jointly by a Maldivian and Chinese company 'Tolarno Maldives Kunaavashi Resort', in Vaavu Atoll will launch early 2020.

The agreement to develop the island into a resort was signed and handed over to the Chinese Company called CJL Investment Pvt Ltd which is a joint venture by Guangdong Beta Oceans Ltd and Maldivian Partners. Kunaavashi Island Retreat & Spa will be the first ever investment in the development of tourism of Maldives by a Chinese private company.

The island was leased to CJL for 50 years and the construction began in 2015 and was presumed to be opened by the end of 2016. However, there was a delay.

The resort will be managed by renowned Australian company La Vie Hotels and Resorts. This would be their first Maldivian property.

The boutique resort in Vaavu Atoll is located 15 minutes away by seaplane from Velana International Airport (VIA). The five star private island resort will consist of 72 luxurious villa.
