A Bangladeshi national who was involved in the illegal recruitment of foreigners and carrying out business without proper licensing has been deported.
Maldives Immigration Friday confirmed Shafeequl Islam, 49 was deported.
Immigration Controller Ahmed 'Hanafy' Hussain said Shafeequl Islam was deported under a special operation conducted to reduce the number of illegal foreigners in Maldives. The purpose of the operation was to identify and address the reasons why some foreign workers in Maldives are undocumented, said Hanafy in a tweet.
While the number of illegal foreign workers in Maldives are increasing, may actions that can be classified under human trafficking are conducted in the illegal recruitment of foreign nationals.
