'Job Fair' begins in Farukolhufushi

'Job Fair' has commenced in Farukolhufushi in celebration of World Tourism Day. 67 Maldivian resorts are participating in the event.

The event was inaugurated by Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail on Friday night. Those interested in visiting the fair from Male' has the opportunity to travel to Farukolhufushi in ferries operating every 30 minutes from number two jetty for the duration of the fair.

Tourism Minister Ali Waheed said the fair will be held annually, and is designed especially for Maldivians.

Opening 'Job Center' next month

Speaking during Friday's ceremony, Economic Minister Fayyaz said work is ongoing to establish a 'Job Center' as part of the pledges made by the government. Fayyaz revealed that capacity building for the tourism and construction industry will be conducted as part of the project initiated in collaboration of the World Bank.

"The job center will be opened by end of October. Employment will be arranged for those who register themselves at the center when a job for which they are qualified for is announced. Quota will be issued to employ a foreigner if no qualified locals are available", Minister Fayyaz said.

The job fair will go on for three days. The fair will provide opportunity for locals to secure jobs in tourism with the Ministry's aid.
