The Presidential Commission Investigating Murders and Enforced Disappearances has stated that the truth behind the murder of former Ungoofaaru MP Dr Afrashim Ali will be revealed soon.
The religious scholar was brutally murdered at around 1:30 am September 30, 2012 in the stairwell of his residence. While seven years have passed since the incident, Afrashim's family and the public has been expressing concern as justice has not been served in the case.
President of the commission, Husnu-Al-Suood on Wednesday tweeted he is confident that the findings of the commission's investigation into the case can be revealed within the next few weeks. Those who planned and executed the murder will be named, said Suood.
The commission previously revealed that that the perpetrators behind the murder had been identified and that a report on their investigation had been shared with the President's Office.
It is a presidential pledge of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to seek justice for Dr Afrashim's murder. The commission investigating murders recently revealed that the those behind the murder of journalist Ahmed Rilwan and blogger Yameen Rasheed were extremist religious groups.
