Pres urges to support action plan despite personal opinions

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Wednesday urged all to work towards achieving the five-year manifesto of the government.

During a ceremony held in Dharubaaruge, the government launched their five-year Strategic Action Plan which outlines the government's plans to achieve the 'Jazeera' manifesto.

Setting out strategic goals that would help achieve key developmental milestones in realizing the people’s hopes of a “Jazeera Raajje", the five-year plan is based on five priority areas: Blue Economy, Caring State, Dignified Families, “Jazeera Dhiriulhun,” and Good Governance.

Launching the plan, President Solih said the plans listed under each of these areas are the precise steps the administration will take to accomplish them, ensuring that each step is time-bound and must occur within a specified deadline.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Solih acknowledged that some of the plans may not be agreeable to some members of the government and cabinet ministers, but urged everyone to provide support in achieving the plans despite disagreement.

"There may be some steps of the plan that are not agreeable to everyone, it may not be written to your liking. However, it is my utmost request that all our Ministers and government employees work to cooperate with me [in achieving this]", stated President Solih.

"Every single strategy in this plan has been discussed with the public and relevant authorities. Therefore, even if one does not agree with the strategies in the plan, I urge all cabinet ministers and political appointees to put aside their personal beliefs and move forward with me without hesitation to successfully implement this plan", said the President.

While President Solih has made this statement, there has been disagreement in the past on the manifesto among the ruling coalition. Although most of the manifesto consists of main-ruling MDP's policies, it also contains a few policies of other coalition partners. The President's cabinet comprises of representatives from all coalition members. However, some parliamentarians from MDP has stated that adequate work is not done by cabinet ministers from other political parties, and have called for their resignation.

In his remark, President Solih emphasized the importance of support of the judiciary and the parliament in following through with the strategic plan, and requested their support and assistance in implementing it.

The coalition leaders, President of MDP Mohamed Nasheed, President of Adhaalath PartyImran Abdullah and Jumhooree Party Leader Gasim Ibrahim took part in the function held to unveil the strategic plan. However, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, who is also part of the ruling coalition did not take part in the ceremony as he is currently abroad. Cabinet ministers, Parliament members and senior officials of the government took part in the ceremony.
