President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Saturday visited Hiroshima, Japan where he met with the Mayor and visited the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum.
President Solih, accompanied by First Lady Fazna Ahmed, visited Hiroshima as part of his ongoing official visit to Japan.
The President was welcomed upon arrival at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum by Matsui Kazumi, the Mayor of Hiroshima. During the visit, the President toured the museum and laid a wreath at the Memorial Cenotaph and signed the guestbook, said the President's Office.
The Maldives and Japan closely cooperate in the international fora, and the Maldives is a strong supporter of international efforts towards disarmament and non-proliferation in addition to the complete denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula. The Maldives is also party to the Convention on Cluster Munitions and the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.
