President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has hoisted the National flag of Maldives at the ceremony to mark the occasion of the National Day.
The flag-hoisting ceremony was held in the Republic Square at 6:00 this morning. Upon his arrival to the location, the President was greeted by the Home minister Imran Abdulla.
Following the hoisting of the national flag, a special dua was recited by the Imam of Masjid-al-Sultan Mohamed Thakurufaanu Al Auzam.
Vice President Faisal Naseem and other senior government officials attended the ceremony.
National Day is celebrated on the 1st day of Rabi' al-awwal every year. The day is marked to commemorate the victory of Muhammad Thakurufaanu Al Auzam, ending the 15 year-long Portuguese occupation of the Maldives in 1573.
