Pres hopes to strengthen Maldives-UK relations

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has expressed his hopes to build on the strong Maldives-UK friendship.

The President made these remarks in a tweet congratulating Conservative Party leader and Ambassador Boris Johnson on his electoral win.

In his tweet, President Solih stated that the UK was the first country the archipelago established diplomatic relations with in 1965 and that the two countries have continued to collaborate closely on issues of mutual concern ever since. He expressed his hopes to further strengthen bilateral ties in the future.

Boris Johnson participated in the UK general elections on Thursday, and accomplished a historic win for the Conservative Party. The party achieved 364 out of 650 seats, their largest majority since 1987.

Following behind, the Labor Party achieved 203 seats. In addition, the Scottish National Party claimed 48 seats, and the Liberal Democrats attained 11.
