The Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has said that airport security has been tightened.
In an interview given to AVAS, MNDF’s Chief Spokesperson, Major Ibrahim Azim said that MNDF’s alert level is ‘one level’ higher than the normal alert level. Azim further said that the alert level is increased not because there is a particular threat but rather to be more prepared in advance.
"Airport security has been tightened as well", said Azim.
Azim said that their alert level is changed from one level to another based on certain ranks.
The MNDF has increased its alert level to “alert2” from 19 hours on Tuesday. MNDF’s “alert2” is upon foreseeing that the national security might be at threat.
From Tuesday night onwards MNDF has been stopping and checking sea vessels.
MNDF’s alert level is increased to ensure the safety and security of the public and the nation and they are confident that they will receive full support from the public.
