5% increase in US$ revenue collection

Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has revealed that the US Dollar Revenue Collection for 2019 increased by 5% compared to the previous year.

Statistics publicized by MIRA show US$ 653 million was received as revenue during 2019. This is a 5% increase compared to the US$ 623 million collected in 2018.

The increase in US$ revenue is due to flourishing tourism. While TGST revenue received in 2019 also increased, MVR 5 billion was collected as GST from the tourism sector last year. MVR 4.7 billion was received in 2018.

A record number of 1.7 million tourists visited the Maldives in 2019, achieving the government's target of hosting 1.5 million tourists in one year.
