'No state resources misused by MDP' - Nasheed

Speaker of the parliament and former president of Maldives Mohamed Nasheed has denied the opposition's claims that main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) are misusing state resources for their local council election campaign.

Speaking to local news agencies before heading off to Ha. and Hdh. atoll on a campaign trail, Nasheed said all trips being undertaken are funded by MDP and that the government plays no part in handling said expenses.

The former president added that while the main-ruling party does not utilize any state resources for party activities, the opposition suspect such actions as they themselves had misused state funds during their time as the ruling government.

"They misused state resources during their time in administration, so they assume even MDP will do the same misdeed," said Nasheed.

Opposing PPM-PNC coalition continues to state that state resources are utilized for some of the trips undertaken by Speaker Nasheed. They have called on the government to stop such acts.
