'Will defeat any contenders' - Nasheed

President of main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed has stated that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and himself have embarked on a journey together, and that there is no political party or leader in Maldives that can defeat the party in an election.

Speaking at a ceremony held in K. Guraidhoo, Nasheed said MDP intends to win the upcoming local council election slated for April 4. While President Solih and Nasheed are facing the journey together, Nasheed challenged anyone who can beat the party to face off against MDP in the election, and assured that the party will ultimately win the election.

"President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and I have embarked on this journey. We are set on winning, and we are confident that God willing, there is not a single political party or leader in the Maldives that can beat us. If you can find such a person, bring them to us; we assure you we will defeat them. We will defeat them with a large margin," said Nasheed.

Nasheed added that he does not understand any reason that a person may vote for a party other than MDP in the council election. Criticizing opposing Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), Nasheed stressed that there is no reason to vote for PPM in the election, claiming that the previous administration had worked to destroy the decentralization system, and attempted to desert Maldivian islands by moving all citizens of the country to reclaimed suburb Hulhumale'.
