Former MP Nizar attains MDP ticket to contest in local council election

Former MP of Hithadhoo Southern Constituency Ali Nizar has attained main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s ticket to contest in the upcoming local council election for the mayorship of southernmost Addu City.

MDP held its primary on Friday to elect candidates from among the party who will contend in the local council election slated for 4th of April.

While three candidates contested for the party ticket to run for Addu City mayor in the council election, including current mayor of the city Abdullah Sadiq who has remained in the position for the last three terms, the ticket was won by Ali Nizar in Friday's election. Mayor Sadiq has accepted defeat and congratulated Nizar and urged him to work towards ensuring a win in the council election.
