No additional suspected cases: Health minister

No additional suspected cases of coronavirus have been recorded, confirms Health Minister Abdulla Ameen.

While two Maldivians who returned to the country after being to China, the epicenter of the virus, have been placed in isolation to ensure they are not infected with the virus, the minister on Saturday said their samples have been sent abroad for testing, and that results will be received on Sunday.

Neither individual have exhibited any symptoms of infection, said the minister.

The first individual to be placed in isolation was a 20-year old Maldivian who came back from China after participating in a fair held at China’s Ziabing city. He was taken to the isolation centre at Funadhoo, a small island near Male’ and airport island Hulhule'. The man is in good condition, and he had not come in contact with anyone after his return to the Maldives, said the minister.
