Foreigner with counterfeit passport caught entering Maldives

A man attempting to enter Maldives by impersonating another individual has been stopped by Maldives Immigration.

Immigration said the 30-year old man attempted to use a counterfeit passport of an individual who shared similar physical features with him to enter the country. Maldives Immigration did not disclose his identity or nationality, or which country he traveled to Maldives from.

It is a frequent practice for deported foreign workers to re-enter Maldives by impersonation. Relevant authorities are working on strengthening the country's border control system and are taking steps against human trafficking.
