The government of Maldives will be subsidizing part of water and electricity bills as part of efforts undertaken to mitigate losses caused to the public due to the current COVID-19 outbreak.
The decision was announced at a press conference held Thursday to unveil the government's new economic package to aid the country's current situation.
Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer said the government will subsidize 40% of electricity bills and 30% of water bills for the upcoming months of April and May.
During the press conference presented by the Finance Minister, Economic MInister Fayyaz Ismail and Governor Ali Hashim, the government announced a MVR 2.5 billion economic package and disseminated information on the package.
