COVID-19: Two patients in Maldives make full recovery

Two people who tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives have recovered from the virus.

The government made the announcement at a press conference held Saturday night to update the public of the current status in the Maldives.

The two recovered patients are an Italian couple who were holidaying at Sandies Bathala Island Resort. The elderly couple was transferred to state-run Dharumavantha Hospital in capital Male' after the 70-year old man's condition deteriorated.

The government confirmed that both patients have made full recoveries, and tested negative for the virus on two separate occasions following their recovery. Health Minister Abdulla Ameen said the patients have been discharged from the hospital according to the protocols put in place by the World Health Organization (WHO), but will still be required to complete a 14-day quarantine period.

13 people tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives. The number of active cases is now 11. Minister Ameen said some of the patients have already tested negative for the virus, but will be declared as fully recovered only after a second test confirms the result.
