Parliament sessions to be conducted virtually

The Parliament has made the decision to have parliamentarians attend its sessions virtually from their homes.

While the government has ordered the closure of all government entities for a one week period amid COVID-19 fears, Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed has stated that the work of the parliament must go on and that necessary sessions must still be conducted although regular sessions are halted.

However, after discussion with the Parliament Secretariat, chairs of parliament committees and the parliamentary group leaders of political parties, the parliament secretariat on Tuesday announced its decision to conduct parliament's sessions with the parliamentarians working from home.
