Govt to upgrade five hospitals to accomodate COVID-19 patients

Arrangements are being made at five hospitals across Maldives to provide treatment for COVID-19 patients.

Government Spokesperson for National Emergency Operation Centre Mabrook Azeez Sunday said Gaaf Alif Atoll Hospital, Laamu Atoll Hospital, Baa Atoll Hospital, Shaviyani Atoll hospital and Addu Regional Hospital are being upgraded such that COVID-19 patients can be safely treated at the facilities.

In this regard, 23 ICU beds and 22 isolation beds in Addu Regional Hospital, 23 ICU beds and 12 isolation beds in Gaafu Alif Atoll Hospital, 20 ICU beds and 23 isolation beds in Laamu Atoll Hospital, and 20 ICU beds and 37 isolation beds in both Baa Atoll Hospital and Shaviyani Atoll Hospital will be established. The COVID-19 treatment wards will have seperate entrances and exits, said Mabrook.

20 cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Maldives thus far, out of which 14 have now recovered from the illness.
