Speaker of the Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed has stated that the Maldivian government is prepared for the community spread of COVID-19.
Following HPA's announcement that a Maldivian local with no recent travel history had tested positive for COVID-19 in capital Male', Nasheed said health experts have warned regarding the likelihood of community spread in residential islands.
"The government is prepared for this situation. Please do not worry," said Nasheed.
According to HPA, the local presented herself to the flu clinic in Senahiya Military Hospital on Tuesday after developing symptoms of flu. The results of her tests were received on Wednesday.
21 people have tested positive for COVID-10 in the Maldives thus far. This is the first positive case detected in Male', and the 6th Maldivian to test positive in the archipelago.
