Hulhumale medical facility to be ready by end of month

The government has revealed that the medical facility under construction in Hulhumale' will reach completion by the end of the month.

Speaking at the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC)'s press conference held Tuesday night, NEOC's Spokesperson Mabrook Azeez said although the government aimed to complete the facility by April 15, there were some setbacks in completing the work and the facility is now scheduled to reach completion by the end of the month.

"The finishing work is currently ongoing, and equipment is being installed. We have been informed that the facility will reach completion by the end of the month," said Mabrook.

The government earlier revealed that a 300-bed medical facility is being established to house those that need to be placed in isolation as a precaution against COVID-19. The facility is being constructed in the vacant lot in front of Tree Top Hospital in Hulhumale'.

The construction is being led by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) with the assistance of other government entities. The construction will cost MVR 12 million, and the equipment needed for the facility will cost an additional MVR 28 million.

A 50-bed medical facility was earlier developed at Farukolhufushi island, and included two ICU beds.
