Additional resorts designated as quarantine facilities

Tourism Minister Ali Waheed has stated that an additional three resorts have been designated as quarantine facilities for people travelling from Male’ to other islands.

In a tweet published on the popular social media platform Twitter, Minister Ali Waheed said, Hdh. Hondaafushi, F. Filitheyo, and M. Medhufushi Resort have been established as quarantine facilities, and will accomodate people traveling back to the atolls from Male'.

A lockdown was imposed on capital Male' on April 15 after the first local transmission case of COVID-19 was identified in the city. While the number of positive cases continue to rise, the lockdown has now been extended until May 28. As per the current protocols, those travelling to islands from Male' have to complete a compulsory 14-day quarantine period before disembarking at the respective island.

The government has been making arrangement to send people stranded in Male' back to their islands. More than 5000 people have requested the government’s help to return to their islands.

Four other resorts are currently in use for quarantining people travelling to islands.
