Main government hospital, Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) will resume its OPD services starting Monday.

The hospital temporarily suspended OPD consultations and provided online consultations instead in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Special flu clinics were established for those with symptoms of the flu.

A statement issued by IGMH on Sunday said OPD services will be resumed at the hospital as part of the eases granted by the authorities on the precautionary measures taken against COVID-19. Although the danger of COVID-19 still remains, other ailments also require treatment, said IGMH.

The hospital further said instead of taking appointments for specific doctors, appointments will be issued for specific departments. They urged to opt for online consultations where possible, and asked those with flu symptoms to seek help at the designated flu clinics.

IGMH said it will continue to impose the precautionary measures that were being implemented at the hospital. These measures restrict visitors and allow only one person to remain with admitted patients. Those entering the hospital will be screened for fever.

The Maldives have recorded 2035 positive cases of COVID-19 to date out of which more than half have recovered. The country has recorded eight COVID-19 related fatalities to date.
