The government of Maldives late Sunday relieved the restriction imposed on the islands in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As per a directive issued by the Director General of Public Health, the restrictions imposed under the authority of the Director General of the Public Health has been cancelled from 15 June onwards. However, this does not include the restrictions imposed on the capital.
Several restrictions were imposed on the other islands of the Maldives after the detection of some positive cases of COVID-19 from the atolls. Positive cases were detected from only a few islands of the Maldives, and those islands were relieved from restrictions once the infected cases recovered. No new cases were detected in the affected islands. The movement restriction imposed from one island to another island has also been lifted.
The country has recorded 2035 cases of COVID-19, and on Monday several restrictive measures imposed on the capital Male’ region has been relaxed.
