Maldives parliament under monitoring after staffer tests positive for COVID-19

The Maldives Parliament house has been closed temporarily after a staffer working at the buiding tested positive for COVID-19.

The employee, who works in the maintenance department of the Peoples' Majlis last reported to work on Monday. Contact tracing is ongoing and the Parliament building is now under the Health Protection Agency (HPA)'s monitoring status. HPA said the building will be opened again after contact tracing and disinfecting work is concluded.

A parliament sitting was held even on Wednesday, in addition to several committee meetings.

The Parliament switched to physical sittings in June after conducting virtual sessions for some time as a precautionary measure against COVID-19. The decision to resume physical sittings has been met with a lot of public criticism.
