Travel ban issued against ex tourism minister

Authorities on Sunday imposed a travel ban on disgraced former tourism minister Ali Waheed.

According to the police, his passport was seized under a court order due to ongoing investigations into allegations of sexual harassment.

Multiple complaints of sexual harassment and misconduct that are said to have taken place within the ministry were lodged to both the president and the Gender Ministry last week by a group of tourism ministry employees. A police case was also filed. The victims of the incidents spoke directly with the president, after which the president immediately ordered Ali Waheed’s resignation. However, he failed to comply with the president’s request to submit his resignation, after which he was dismissed from the cabinet.

Earlier on Saturday night, the police searched the former minister’s residence and seized several electronic devices. His mobile phone is also said to have been seized.
