A parliament staffer who attends committee meetings have tested positive for COVID-19.
Confirming the reports to AVAS, the parliament's media director Hassan Ziyau the Health Protection Agency (HPA) informed that a female employee working at the office tested positive for the virus. Contact tracing and disinfection is ongoing, said Ziyau.
Ziyau added that the parliament sittings and committee meetings will not be interrupted despite the development, and the panel discussion on the motion on public health emergency scheduled for Sunday night will go ahead as planned.
This is the third parliament employee who has tested positive for COVID-19. A staffer working in the maintenance department and a driver previously tested positive for the virus.
The Maldives has recorded 2,930 positive cases of COVID-19 to date. While 15 COVID-19 deaths have been recorded thus far, the number of active cases is 546.
