The Maldives on Saturday recorded 156 new cases od COVID-19. This is the most number of positive cases recorded in a single day since the island nation lifted restrictive measures in July.
According to the Health Protection Agency, HPA the new cases are of 134 locals and 22 foreigners. The total number of positive cases is now 3,949.
HPA also announced 7 recoveries bringing the tally to 2,613. While 16 deaths have been recorded to date, the number of active cases is 1,305. 72 patients are receiving treatment at the hospital.
The Health Ministry earlier on Saturday said the Health Emergency Operations Centre during its meeting discussed possible steps that may be taken in the current situation. However, no other details were given.
