Chief Magistrate of Haa Dhaal atoll judicial sector, Mohamed Maumoon resigned on Monday.
Mausoom’s resignation comes while the Parliament’s Judiciary Committee approved to dismiss the judge as per the Judicial Service Commission, JSC’s recommendation. The parliament was set to vote on his dismissal at Monday's sitting. JSC’s media official confirmed Mausoom’s letter of resignation had been submitted at the commission ahead of the vote.
The JSC sought Mausoom’s dismissal after concluding that the magistrate had accepted bribes in judicial matters. JSC also said Mausoom is guilty of using inappropriate language in addressing court employees, and said that sexual harrasement allegations against the judge are also proven.
