FlyMe commences international flight operation

Local airline, FlyMe on Friday commenced international flight operations after obtaining the Air Operation Certificate (AOC).

Managing Director of Villa Air, Abdulla Nashid said the airline received the certification on Thursday and that the first international flight was operated on Friday. The airline’s first flight was a charter flight to Sri Lanka, said Nashid.

“We have been getting ready for this for a long time, so we were fully prepared. This is why we were able to immediately commence operation when we received the certification,” said Nashid.

Nashid said once Sri Lanka reopens its borders, the airline will begin scheduled flights to Sri Lanka’s Ratamalana International from Velana International Airport. Tickets will be available for local at affordable prices when the scheduled flights commence, he added.

FlyMe also intends to begin scheduled flights to India in addition to Sri Lanka, said Nashid. The airline is also working on obtaining the necessary permits required to land at Villa Group’s Maamigili International Airport.
