WHO recognises Maldives for eliminating endemic rubella virus

The World Health Organization (WHO) hast recognised Maldives for eliminating endemic rubella virus.

The WHO South-East Asia Regional Verification Commission for Measles and Rubella Elimination, at its fifth meeting in July 2020, concluded from the evidence provided by the National Verification Committee of the Maldives that endemic rubella virus has been eliminated from the country. The documentation recognising the achievement was handed over to the Maldives at WHO’s 73rd Regional meeting, which is currently ongoing.

With this achievement, Maldives becomes one of the first countries in the region to achieve the regional target of measles and rubella elimination three years ahead of its scheduled timeline of 2023.
