Maldives’ Government has decided that the Regularization Employment Approval (ARE) will be issued to foreigners participating in the Regularization Program only after the required deposit payments are paid.
The Ministry of Economic Development began work to register undocumented migrant workers in the Maldives and implemented a ‘Regularisation Program’ under which over 20,000 unregistered
migrant workers were officially registered. The ministry said in addition to the issuance of ARE, the Employment Approvals of those who have already received their ARE will not be extended unless the deposits are paid.
The new change will take effect this Wednesday.
