COVID-19: Night-time vehicle ban lifted in capital

Changes have been brought to the vehicle ban imposed in Male’ city.

After a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in August, authorities imposed a vehicle ban from 8pm onwards, with a curfew in place from 10 pm to 5 am.

The Health Protection Agency on Saturday announced that the restrictions on vehicle movement have been lifted although the curfew will continue to remain in place. With this change, there will be no movement restriction on vehicles until 10 pm.

The number of COVID-19 cases being recorded in the Maldives has fallen once again, with the numbers below 50 on most days. Businesses have been calling on the government to bring changes to the restrictions due to the negative impact on their businesses as a result of the restrictions.
