Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem has requested the Criminal Court to livestream the MMPRC corruption trial’s court hearings.
The PG on Monday said the Prosecutor General’s Office sent a letter to the Criminal Court of Maldives urging to livestream court hearings. The request was made in a bid to ensure transparency of the process, said Shameem. He expressed hope that the request is facilitated by the court.
Several serious charges have been raised against the former president of the Maldives, Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom in relation to the MMPRC scandal, during which millions in state funds were embezzled. While some chargest have already been proven, he is currently serving a five year prison sentence at Maafushi Jail. Charges are also being sought against former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Ghafoor and former Attorney General Azima Shakoor.
