President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will be traveling to Laamu atoll at the end of this week.
The President is scheduled to visit Laamu atoll on Thursday to inaugurate CT scan services at Gamu Regional Hospital, and to take part in a ceremony held to open the Gamu Zone Stadium, and the establishment of an electricity network connecting the three wards of Gan.
This is the second visit that the president will be making to an inhabited island during the current COVID-19 pandemic. His first visit was to Ha. Hoarafushi to attend the island’s airport opening ceremony, after which he visited Lh. Maafilaafushi and Felivaru.
The President’s Office has not officially revealed any information regarding the visit. However, Gan island’s Council has already started preparations for the upcoming ceremony. A letter in which the island council requested the maximum attendance of students from the islands' Hamad Bin Khalifa School at the ceremony have been circulating on social media, due to which the oppositions’ criticism has been directed at the government.
