A foreign fishing vessel trespassing on Maldivian waters has been detained by authorities.
The boat was first sighted by a local fishing vessel near K. Maafushi on Monday, and the vessel's crew alerted Maldives National Defence Force of the boat's presence.
MNDF Tuesday said a foreign vessel illegally fishing in Maldivian waters has been detained. When the reports of the vessel were received, the flight gifted to the Maldives by India was used to patrol the area and locate the boat, said MNDF. The defence force said six crewmen were aboard the vessel, but declined to reveal the flag under which the boat was sailing.
