COVID-19 measures: Upto MVR 75,000 to be charged for violations

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced a set of guidelines on actions that will be taken against individuals who do not adhere to the directives of the Director General of Public Health during the State of Public Health Emergency.

According to the new guidelines, a fine of MVR 1,000 will be charged for the first violation carried out by an individual, and MVR 3,500 will be charged for a second violation. While MVR 7,500 will have to be paid as a fine in the case of a third violation, MVR 10,000 will be charged for every violation after that.

In the case of a legal entity acting against the directives of the Director General of Public Health, a fine of MVR 5,000 will be charged for the initial violation while a second violation will carry a fine of MVR 25,000. A third violation will carry a fine of MVR 50,000 and MVR 75,000 will be charged for every violation after that.

The Director General of Public Health has the authority to impose the highest fine even for first-time violations. However, this step can be taken in the case of certain violations only.

The new measures will be implemented by the police.
