A training facility will be established at the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF)’s Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) with the assistance of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Japanese government.
A ceremony was held on Wednesday to sign the Exchange of Notes by the Japanese government and UNODC.
Speaking at the ceremony, Defence Minister Mariya Ahmed Didi said it is hoped that the facility will strengthen the capacities of MRCC, noting that the project includes training programs in addition to a new MRCC building.
MRCC is the main coordination center for the Coast Guard’s Search and Rescue Operations.
