Pres nominates Dr. Farahanaz for IMO ambassadorship

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has forwarded Maldives’ Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Dr. Farahanaz Faisal’s name for parliament consideration for the post of Maldives’ Ambassador to the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

IMO is the United Nations specialized agency with responsibility for the safety and security of shipping and the prevention of marine and atmospheric pollution by ships. IMO's work supports the UN sustainable development goals.

The Parliament has sent the President’s recommendation to its committee on National Security and Foreign Relations for review.

Farahanaz, who is also the non-resident ambassador to Ireland, Spain and France, was the first woman in the Maldives to attain a PhD. She is the granddaughter of the Maldives’ first President, Mohamed Ameen.
